Overview
Smartphone Vivo V7 is made in accordance with the fashion trends and is in great demand in Asian countries: India, China, Thailand. It takes the fifth position in the rating of gadgets produced by the world’s most famous manufacturers. First of all, the device is intended for lovers of Selfie, which is confirmed by its powerful camera.
The creators of the device copied the workings of the companies Samsung and Apple, enriched their own ideas and eventually got a novelty with excellent photo opportunities. The cost of the gadget is significantly lower than the analogs of the above brands, but it remains quite high. What can interest the users of the smartphone of the Chinese company Vivo V7 and what are its characteristics?
Who is it?
The Vivo brand is very popular in Asia: China, India, Thailand – in all these countries the company is well known. No wonder the manufacturer some time ago took the 5th place in the ranking of the largest suppliers of smartphones in the world (now this place is slowly taking away Xiaomi).
Vivo copies the developments of Apple (in the first place) and Samsung. Copies, complete, as a result, their own devices are much cheaper than models from A-brands, but still not the low-costers.
In addition, the company has really interesting developments. So, some time ago the manufacturer released the world’s thinnest smartphone – X5 Max with 4.75 mm in the thickest place of the case.
Then was the world’s first smartphone with a 2K-screen (Xplay 3s), the first application of optical stabilization in the camera (Xshot). In addition, the company first thought of placing two cameras in front – a smartphone V5 Plus.
And the manufacturer did not lag behind in terms of the screen. For example, the display Vivo Xplay 5 was characterized by curved edges, on the level with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Blackberry Priv.
And a little more about the company. Vivo is a subsidiary of the largest electronics manufacturer in Asia, BBK Electronics. The company also includes Oppo, which confidently ranks fourth in the ranking of the world’s best-selling smartphones.
Design & Ergonomics
The smoothly curved rear panel of the Vivo V7, although it looks metallic, is actually made of plastic. This, by the way, largely explains the relatively small weight of this smartphone – 139 grams. Misleading is also introduced simulations of inserts for antennas, which in all-metal housings provide the necessary radio transparency. Fortunately, the plastic used for the case is matte, so the prints remaining on it are not as noticeable as, for example, in the case of a glossy surface. In addition, the kit with a smartphone includes a protective case – a silicone clip case that covers not only the perimeter but the entire back side of the device.
In Vivo V7, there are two colors – black and golden. The overall dimensions of the novelty are 149,3х72,8х7,9 mm.
Due to the ratio of 18: 9, the device with a “high” screen diagonal of 5.7-inches is felt in the hand in much the same way as a regular 5.2-inch smartphone. The ratio of a display area and front panel in Vivo V7, according to the manufacturer, is 83.6%, and the thickness of the side frames does not exceed 2.15 mm.
As usual, the entire front panel of the smartphone is closed with a protective glass with 2.5D effect (the manufacturer is not specified).
Above the display, around the decorative lattice of the “conversational” speaker are located: LED indicator and front camera lens (left), light and proximity sensors, and a LED for “soft” backlighting (right).
The order and style of the virtual buttons “Back”, “Home”, “Recent applications”, like the color of the control panel itself, is easy to change in the settings. In addition, tapas on these icons can be replaced by gestures (vertical svaypami).
On the right edge of the shell settled equally thin, but different in length, rocker volume control and an on/off button.
On the left edge, there is a closed slot with a tray for three places, which are designed for simultaneous placement of two subscriber identity modules (nanoSIM format) and a microSD memory card. Such a decision is welcome.
At the bottom, between the heads of the two screws, a micro USB connector is placed, to the right of which (the view from the screen side) is a decorative grille of the “multimedia” speaker (six round holes), and to the left there is a small hole for the “talking” microphone and a 3.5- mm headset connector.
Only the second (additional) microphone got on the top end.
The lens bezel of the main camera slightly protrudes above the back panel, decorated with a “silver” Vivo logo. Next, in the same left corner, a LED flash was placed. A little lower, but already in the center, is the capacitive pad of the fingerprint scanner.
From the inscription at the bottom of the back panel, you can find out the name of the manufacturer. The ergonomics of the 5.7-inch device with a screen in the proportion of 18: 9 claims, in general, no.
Appearance
The main design feature of the gadget is a widescreen screen with a 2: 1 aspect ratio. The frames on the sides are thin, the bottom and top are also minimal, so there is no space for touch buttons under the display – they have been replaced with onscreen ones. At the top end, there is a proximity sensor, an indicator of notifications, a camera, a flash and a talker.
The back panel bears the eye of the main camera, located in the upper right corner, and near it, there is a flash. Below is the middle – dactyloscopy in the form of a square with rounded corners. Under it is the manufacturer’s logo.
On the left side, there is a tray for two SIM cards and a flash drive (not a combo box), but on the opposite side, there is a volume control button and a power button. At the bottom end, the manufacturer placed a headphone jack, the main speaker, a microphone, and a MicroUSB connector, which looks inappropriate for this cost. The top end was occupied by an additional microphone for noise reduction.
The Vivo V7 smartphone is a stylish solution that matches the trends of 2017. It is made in a strict, minimalistic design with rounded edges and a back cover. On sale will be a version in gold and black.
Display Of Vivo V7
The second most important feature of the smartphone is the screen. It’s widescreen here, that is, it has fashionable proportions of 18 to 9, and not as before – 16: 9.
In addition, the display has neatly rounded corners and minimal frames.
All this is alarming, for how will they open in the new solution of the application? Will not they be mowed along and across? No, there’s nothing to worry about.
In addition, the manufacturer has implemented the management of gestures. You can completely disable the familiar bar with buttons and swipe programs back and forth.
From the box on the device is glued a sufficiently high-quality protective film. It protects the screen, but it spoils the sensations from using the smartphone with its sharp corners. So I decided to unglue it and at the same time see if there is an oleophobic coating there.
It is, however, not at all flagship. Impressions easily accumulate on the surface and do not very readily wear off. The conclusion is simple – we do not tear off the film, we use it so.
The situation with the display in V7 + was especially upset, for which 25 thousand are already asking. He has a diagonal higher (5.99 inches), and the resolution is the same – 1440 x 720 pixels. Accordingly, the ladder of the pixels is clearly distinguishable. In the younger version (V7) this is not so pronounced, because the screen size is less – 5.7 inches.
By the way, only two versions are available: white-gold and completely black.
Cameras
When you turn on your smartphone, the image of the Vivo logo is accompanied by the signature Camera & Music. Obviously, the devices under this brand focus on these features. Since one of the main “chips” of the Vivo V7 is the front camera, then we will start with it.
Thanks to the impressive 24-megapixel sensor, the resolution of self-portraits of 5632×4224 pixels (24 MP, 4: 3) is provided. However, a wide-angle aperture lens with an aperture of f / 2.0 would not at all interfere with autofocus. In conditions of insufficient illumination, it is recommended to use a “soft” LED backlight, which does not “puff”, but shines constantly (like a flashlight).
The main photo module Vivo V7 is equipped with a 16-megapixel sensor and a conventional LED flash. The wide-angle lens received an aperture of f / 2.0 and a phase autofocus. The digital zoom of the image is x1-x8. The maximum resolution of images is achieved with a 4: 3 aspect ratio and is 4608×3456 pixels (16 MP, 4: 3). Also in the settings, it is easy to choose a different aspect ratio of the frame – 1: 1 (3456×3456 pixels) or 2: 1, that is, 18: 9 (4608×2304 pixels).
The maximum video resolution for both cameras is Full HD (1920×1080 pixels, 16: 9) with a frame rate of 30 fps. Interestingly, the settings give a reference, how much space takes one minute of recording as 1080p, 720p and 480r. Sometimes this information can be very useful. In the “Slow Motion” mode, the main camera writes video with VGA resolution (640×480 pixels). All content is collected in MP4 container files (AVC – video, AAC – audio).
The interface of the “Camera” application does not abound with settings. So, in the upper part of the viewfinder, virtual buttons for ordinary (and “soft”) flash, HDR, “live photos”, background blur, as well as icons for switching to the additional shooting mode (main camera) and settings page were collected. The lower part of the screen was occupied by icons for the release of the shutter (start of recording), the transition to the page of filters, switching from the main camera to the front camera, and vice versa. Here you can choose the main shooting scenario from the set, which includes “Panorama” (for the front camera – “Group Selfie”), “Beautiful Face”, “Take a picture” and “Video”. For “Beautiful Face” there are cosmetic options – “polishing”, “shade of skin” and “bleaching”.
It is quite appropriate for the portrait to also activate background blur to emulate the bokeh effect. In professional mode, you can manually adjust settings such as focusing, ISO and shutter speed, exposure compensation, and white balance. In the “live photo” mode, along with photos, accompanying two-second clips are recorded. The resolution of Ultra HD (9216×6912 pixels, 64 MP) is achieved by composing four 16-megapixel images into one. To create various effects on the photo it is suggested to use special filters, including for portraits. By the way, in the portrait orientation of the smartphone, it is convenient to lower the shutter on the fingerprint scanner. Despite the good luminosity of the lens, night shots from the main camera were not too impressive. Examples of photos can be seen,

Performance
The speed of the work depends on two factors: from “iron” and optimization of the shell. With the latter, everything is more or less normal. Yes, there are nuances, but they are likely to be polished in the next updates. We remember that the smartphone was introduced less than a month ago.
But the processor is clearly not the fastest in the world. Qualcomm has several lines of its “stones”. The brakes are the 200th series, followed by the budget line (Snapdragon 400), followed by the middle class (600) and then the top “stones” of the 800th series. I think it’s clear how the V7 Snapdragon 450 will work. It’s a smart one among the classmate’s solution, but still not as fast thinking as Snapdragon 625 or 630.
I mean, a smartphone likes to think about when opening an application – for a second or two.
Next, I launched World of Tanks Blitz, set high graphics parameters and was surprised. The frame rate did not drop below 48 FPS. In general, you can play on V7 with pleasure – thanks to quite a good accelerator Adreno 506, under which have already managed to optimize everything and everything. 2K video clips smartphone snaps like nuts. But 4K is not reproduced at all – at best we get a slideshow.
loudspeaker
The speaker in Vivo V7 is loud. Very loud. This is a plus.
In the I Music app you can play with sound effects, imagining yourself in the bathroom, concert hall, library and so on, as well as adjust the equalizer. In the latter, there are user settings, but lazy ones can simply choose the most suitable mode.
As an amateur to fall asleep to music or audiobooks, I was also very pleased with the presence of a sleep mode, in which after a set time (from 3 to 100 minutes the music stops and the smartphone turns off.
Having dealt with the cameras, let’s see what subtext of the Vivo brand is embedded in the word Music. Alas, no information on the specific features of the hardware support (for example, the “musical” digital-to-analog converter) in the Vivo V7 model could not be found. For the quality of playback, the “multimedia” speaker Vivo V7 is quite average. True, complete with a smartphone is a wired audio headset, but we did not have it on the test, so it was not possible to appreciate this accessory. By the way, for the connected headphones, the producer is stored “sound effects of distant space”. For example, right from the company application iMusic, you can choose one of the “favorites” effects – “panoramic surroundings”, “mega-bass” or “clean voice”. There are also several presets, when the sound will correspond to the environment, for example, a room in a karaoke lounge (KTV), a concert hall or even a bathroom. If you abandon the effects, you have access to a 10-band equalizer, where, among other things, there is also an individual setting. In-house formats for lossless digital audio encoding are supported, such as APE and FLAC.
A battery of Vivo V7 is rather weak
Vivo V7 received 4 GB of RAM and a fresh eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor. This is the successor to Snapdragon 435, which we see so often in the devices of the budget segment. In brief, we recall that in Snapdragon 450 Qualcomm promised us a performance increase due to the use of the sharper graphics Adreno 506, as well as greater battery endurance.
Vivo V7, indeed, quite smart, including in games. The results of the AnTuTu test for a budget smartphone are also not bad.
But with the battery, alas, everything is not so rosy. Firstly, it does not say that large – only 3000 mAh. And discharges the Vivo V7 quickly, too fast. In the “light” mode, without active use of social networks and watching a video, the battery charge was barely enough for a day.
Charges Vivo V7, I recall, through the port of MicroUSB. The fast charging function is supported, and from the native cables, the smartphone is charged at 1% per minute.

Buy Vivo V7 or not?
Vivo V7 is definitely a smartphone for an amateur. I would even say, a lover. Doing Selfie, playing with filters – well, you understand. He is very cute, even in a dull black color, comfortable and light.
The smartphone does not impress with its quickness or stamina, but it does not disappoint in them (well, except that the battery would like to see a slightly larger capacity). In general, a smartphone can be an excellent gift for a young insta-bloggershi. But to give it to the “advanced smartphone” I would be careful.
