How many front-facing cameras on the smartphone really a lot? Of course, not two, two is just right and Vivo V5 Plus equipped with just this amount. And it’s not just two cameras, one of them is the main 20-megapixel, and the other is 8-megapixel for the depth-of-field effect. There is also a 16-megapixel camera on the back of the smartphone, resulting in a total number of megapixels on the smartphone will be 44.
Wait, you will say, yes this is the iPhone 7 with the Vivo icon on the back cover! Indeed, the resemblance of V5 Plus to the last apple is more than fleeting, the same forms of antennas and so on, one must be naive to believe that this is a coincidence.
So, what we have: an iPhone-like case, Snapdragon 625 top processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB for data storage and 16 MP camera that shoots video in 4K resolution. Not bad for the midnight, which is Vivo V5 plus. What more could you wish for?
Equipment
V5 Plus comes in an unremarkable rectangular box of white color, with the image of the device on the front side. In the kit, there is a headset – most phones in the price segment up to $ 400 you will not find this. Charger and USB cable, of course. Yes, there is also a cover relies on. Transparent cover fairly bearable quality. So right out of the box, your V5 will be protected.

Dimensions
V5 Plus is typical for 5.5-inch smartphone sizes (152.6 x 74 x 7.3 mm) and almost identical with OnePlus 3T. If you compare it with Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 then V5 Plus is 2 mm already and 1.2 mm thinner, not a bad break.
With a weight in vivo, too, everything is in order, only 158.6 grams, it’s still all in the standard of similar smartphones with a 5.5-inch screen. Again, compare with Redmi Note 4, our wards are winning a little more than 7 grams, but do not forget that Redmi has an impressive enough battery in 4,100 mAh, which in turn is reflected in the dimensions and weight.
Appearance and usability
In pursuit of the first place, the developers of the Vivo V5 Plus were so carried away by the apple products that almost completely copied the iPhone 7. Just look at the back of the smartphone – antenna stripes, camera location, vivo logo on the same place where the coveted stub. Everything in this phone screams about the fact that it was developed by a company from Cupertino.
Naturally, the device is inevitably different. For example, the placement of controls, the shape of the home button, black spots around the edges of the headphones, all this eventually tells us that this is not an iPhone. But the first thought that appears at the sight of this device is ‘Plagiarism!’.

And this does not mean that the vivo V5 plus looks bad or is poorly made – quite the contrary. This solid device inspires confidence in it. The metal on the back cover indicates its belonging to the premium segment, the display has a rather popular recently 2.5D surface with curved edges. Due to the global round-up, the smartphone is so eager to slip out of the hands.
The screen is protected by Gorilla 5. It is strange that the phone comes with a pre-applied protective film. But on the other hand, it is better to peridot than nooblet. Yes, and the protective layer can always be removed and enjoy its gorgeous screen.

Previous models in vivo had a fingerprint scanner on the back panel. As in the iPhone, the V5 has a fingerprint reader built into the multifunction button ‘home’. By the way, the fingerprint scanner is one of the fastest presented on the market.
On the top of the facial full of a full variety of buns. In the middle is the speaker, to the left of it two front cameras 20MP and 8MP, right proximity sensor and LED notification indicator in one small hole.
But that is not all. Next to it is an LED flash, or rather a flash and a backlight, as it lights up and lights when you take a picture.
On the right side of the device, just above the middle, you will find the power button, a little above the volume rocker. Successful location of no complaints.
The SIM card slot is on the left side of the phone. The tray is designed for two nano-SIM, there is no space for a microSD memory card. The manufacturer decided that 64 GB of internal memory would be enough.
On the bottom end of the phone, in the middle is a micro USB slot (for charging and data transfer). On the right are the speaker holes, and on the left is a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Although vivo almost copied the iPhone, but still did not go for the combination of a headphone connector and a type-C connector.

This is a 5.5-inch phone, so you can hardly reach out with your thumb to the top left corner. Fortunately, there is a software component that compresses the interface to acceptable sizes. One can not help but delight the thin frames around the screen, it also contributes to more comfortable use. But be careful, due to the smoothed corners, the phone is slippery enough.
Display
V5 plus is equipped with 5.5-inch FullHD IPS display, yes the display is quite good, but it can not be called excellent. The pixel density is 401ppi. The photo under the microscope shows a typical RGB arrangement with the same number of subpixels for each primary color.
The vivo V5 plus has quite high brightness and contrast of the display, this fact allows you to leave behind competitors such as Redmi Note 4 and Huawei nova plus, and the main outsider is Zenfone 3. AMOLED displays Moto Z Play and Galaxy C7, in automatic mode, have a brightness much higher than V5. Oppo R9s is duller than its brother vivo, as well as OnePlus 3T and not one in automatic mode does not exceed the brightness of vivo.
The saturated black color of V5 Plus indicates a very good contrast ratio, which almost corresponds to Zenfone 3 and ahead of Redmi Note 4. The characteristics of AMOLED screens in this case by definition, are beyond competition.

The color data is not absolutely accurate – the average DeltaE is 6.1, and for some colors, it reaches 11.9. White colors are also inaccurate.
Visibility in the sun is also not great. These figures are on a par with Nova plus, and better than the Redmi Note 4 and Zenfone 3. All are superior in this respect AMOLED displays.
Camera
The main feature of the Vivo V5 Plus is the dual front camera. The smartphone Vivo V5 front camera has a resolution of 20 megapixels, but now in a pair to it was added a sensor with a resolution of 8 megapixels. The main sensor of the Sony IMX376 has an aperture of f / 2.0, while the second captures information regarding the depth of the image.
It can be noted that this bundle has become not only a marketing fad, but it works really well. On the Vivo V5, the 20 Mp camera did not produce outstanding results, this time the developers got better. Thanks to the two modules, the camera shoots impressive images with a sense of depth and Bokeh effect.
To create the latter, the dual camera blurs the image behind the main subject, which is in focus. This feature works quite well, in most cases the camera recognizes the face and automatically blurs the image behind. In Bokeh mode, you can change the aperture after taking a picture.
Outdoors, the front camera offers high-quality photos. They contain a high level of detail and accurate color rendition. In low light, a flash called Moonlight Glow (Moonlight), which we’ve seen before in the Vivo V5 smartphone, is used. Unlike traditional flashes that illuminate an object, this version naturally highlights the person’s face. This flash copes well with its task and allows you to shoot good photos with minimal lighting.
The rear camera has a resolution of 16 megapixels, phase autofocus and LED flash, it supports 4K video recording. The camera shoots great photos, especially with good lighting. At the same time, sharpness is not the best, on a large screen, photographs, especially those shot in low light, have a noticeable graininess.
Thus, it can be concluded that the cameras on the Vivo V5 Plus smartphone are excellent. As for the front camera, it is one of the best among all smartphones.
Contrast Ratio
Performance
The smartphone runs on an 8-core Snapdragon 625 processor with a clock frequency of 2 GHz and a graphics chip Adreno 506. The amount of RAM is 4 GB. It can not be called top-level components, the processor does not even hold out to the capabilities of Snapdragon 652, but it does not have any problems and brakes with everyday tasks. There are no freezes inside applications or when working with a browser with multiple tabs, even if several applications are open in the background. Gaming performance is also smooth, games with rich graphics go without any problems.
Vivo V5 Plus has a battery capacity of 3055 mAh and support for fast recharging technology. The Snapdragon 625 processor is characterized by energy efficiency, which affects the duration of the device’s autonomous operation. It is possible without any problems to work without recharging a day and a half with modest use. For most users, the smartphone will work for a whole day.
In general, the performance of the smartphone can be called good, although there is nothing outstanding in it and in the duration of battery life.
Data transfer speed
V5 Plus is a device with two nano SIM cards. One of which is connected to the 4G network and the other is not limited to 2G and can be connected to third generation networks. In addition, you can connect both SIM cards to the 3G network.
In vivo, do not specify which generation of LTE supports the phone, but the specification on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 page informs about the outgoing channel Cat.7 (theoretical maximum 300 Mbps) and the incoming channel Cat.13 (150 Mbps).
Used two-band Wi-Fi a / b / g / n / ac support for direct and hot access Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS, GLONASS and BDS for position determination. Unfortunately, FM radio and NFC are missing.
The micro USB 2.0 port is used for charging and connecting peripherals (OTG must be enabled in the settings), and there is also an old-good 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Hardware Components
The smartphone Vivo V5 Plus received 64 GB of flash memory, which for most users is more than enough. Expand this volume with a microSD memory card, but the smartphone uses a hybrid slot, so you can install either microSD or a second SIM card, but not both.
Unlike the Vivo V5 smartphone released a few months ago, the fingerprint scanner on the Vivo V5 Plus is located in the front, not behind. It works quickly and accurately, it can be customized for various actions.
One of the interesting innovations of the smartphone is the proprietary audio chip AK4376 for Hi-Fi sound. If you activate the Hi-Fi option to work with headphones, you will feel a significant difference in sound quality. Listening to music, especially with high-quality streaming services or local files, will be much more enjoyable.
Software
Vivo V5 Plus runs on the Funtouch OS 3.0 shell on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Like other shells of Chinese manufacturers, it does not have a list of applications and instead uses a lot of home screens.
This shell can be called an attempt to copy the operating system Apple iOS. About it here is like navigation, notification center, settings. If you do not pay attention to these similarities, you can see a fairly thoughtful interface, having got used to it, you will begin to appreciate its possibilities. Thanks to the hardware components used here, the system works quickly and smoothly. Let it not be called original because of attempts to imitate iOS, the functionality is at a high level.
The Phone Manager application allows the user to clean the smartphone, manage memory, battery, applications and privacy settings. There is a mode for protecting the eyes, which allows you to switch to warmer colors on the screen and reduce the load on the eyes. Smart Screen Split works no worse than the built-in version on Android Nougat and allows you to split the screen to display two applications at the same time.
Battery Capacity Vivo V5 Plus
The Vivo V5 Plus battery has a capacity of 3160 mAh. Redmi Note 4 has almost 1000mAh more, while Zenfone 3, which we mentioned earlier, is only 3000mAh. The OnePlus 3T battery has a capacity of 3,400 mAh and a more economical chipset. On the other hand, Moto Z Play has the same Snapdragon 625 as the V5 Plus and only 350mAh more capacious battery. So in general, not everything is bad.

Minuses
- Quite expensive
- No microSD slot
- No FM radio and NFC
- Constantly have to explain that this is not an iPhone
Well, the lack of a microSD slot, in order to expand the already capacious 64 GB, the lack of NFC and especially the lack of FM radio, will certainly be a problem for some potential buyers. But that’s what really bothers most, so this price is over $ 400. Such a device will be difficult to sell in the world of Redmi Notes, which cost half as much.
Vivo is a premium brand, hence the inflated price tag. But still, call another similar phone that has two selfies cameras that can do depth-of-field effects? This is clearly none of the Redmi Note.
