The research firm Counterpoint Research shared data on the most popular models of smartphones in terms of sales for May 2018. As it turned out, Apple again managed to break out into first place, ahead of Samsung. However, not with the flagship model.
The most popular smartphone models: market share in May 2018
As you can see in the diagram above, the best-selling smartphone was Apple’s iPhone 8. According to Counterpoint analysts, sales were promoted by active advertising in Europe and other regions. A fraction of a percent of Apple’s compact phone is not so compact as Samsung Galaxy S9 + – the most advanced model of the Korean manufacturer.
The third place is again Apple, now with the real flagship of the line – the iPhone X. Only one-tenth of a percent of this device costing about $ 1000 is behind the worth of less than a hundred Xiaomi Redmi 5A (helped online sales in India and the strong position of the manufacturer in China) and closes the top five again with an apple with an Apple – iPhone 8 Plus.
In April, the layout was significantly different – the first and second places with equal shares in 2.6% occupied the Galaxy S9 + and compact S9, and the third place was the iPhone X with the same as in May, a share of 2.3% of the world market. The other two devices in the top five were also devices Apple – iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8.
The fact that the Koreans did not manage to keep the pace of sales of flagship devices in May and June confirms Samsung’s today forecast operating profit – it will not record for the first time in a year. Growth in comparison with the same quarter of last year will make a decent 5%, however, analysts expected more.
