In shops constantly there is a set of clever house devices from Samsung (and not only). In admiration, many people buy new items only to realize with horror at home that they do not fully understand what to do with them and how to manage them.
Therefore, Samsung decided to create a new doorways platform. This AR-tool for smartphones is designed to help users get comfortable with their smart home. In order to make this process more relaxed, Samsung created an interactive AR game Family Guy based on the series “Family Guy”.
Using a compatible device from Samsung, the user can go through the digital input “Doorways” into a full-fledged 3D model of the Griffin family home. There the characters of the cartoon will hold an AR tour of the key devices of Samsung Intelligent Home. The training is designed in the form of interactive experience, during which the user will perform various tasks for acquaintance with intelligent devices and how they all work in unison in the cloud system of Samsung SmartThings.
For example, the user will learn how to launch “classical lunch music” from the smart refrigerator display, which will be played on the TV in the living room. In this case, intelligent lighting is adjusted to a more appropriate mood. Also, the game will show the user how to inspect the products stored in the refrigerator, using Samsung Smart TV.
“For many consumers, smart devices and IOT (Internet of things) may seem like a complex concept,” said Ian Heartfield, a chief creative officer at BBH London.
“It can be difficult for them to understand what these devices are able to do and how they can work together with the benefit for the owner. This need to gather all the information together for the convenience of consumers has caused us to develop Doorways. Using AR and the wit of Griffin gives Samsung a unique solution to a complex problem. ”
“The ability to connect the physical world to the digital through augmented reality has become an exciting aspect of this cooperation,” adds Olivier Rabenschlag from Google.
“Complementary images in ARCore allow you to create AR applications that can respond to 2D images, such as posters or product packaging, in the user’s environment. In this case, we use the physical door from the Griffin universe as the entry point to the immersive experience and a whole new way to tell the story. “
Developed within the framework of cooperation between Samsung, MediaMonks, Family Guy and Google, the game Family Guy AR is just one of several planned partner projects for acquaintance with IoT.
The Doorways platform from Samsung debuted at the IFA Innovation Exhibition in Berlin for the first time, and the company intends to continue to showcase it at various technological events around the world.
