Samsung has announced the release of two flagships at once. In addition to the Samsung Galaxy S8, a larger version will be on sale – the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone in everything, but not in the title. The flagship Samsung Galaxy S8, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, is equipped with a curved display, however, other differences between the new products are less obvious than the differences between the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge models. And in order for you to have a clearer idea, we have prepared a survey for you, in which we will talk about the common and various features of the two flagships.

Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 +: What’s the difference?
The Galaxy S8 and S8 + have much in common with the S7 and S7 Edge. In the eighth generation of S-series Samsung phones, Edge displays became standard. In addition, the camera, the display resolution and the location of the buttons on both devices are the same.
Therefore, the differences between the two smartphones are minimal, but at the same time huge. From a technical point of view, the main differences between the display and the battery. The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch display, and the S8 + display is 6.2 inches. So the Galaxy S8 + is significantly larger than the S8, as seen in the figure below.
Not a significant difference in size leads to a significant difference when you hold two devices in your hand. A practical review shows that the fingerprint sensor on the S8 + is not as good as on the S8: in addition to the strange location next to the rear camera, on the S8, the sensor is much easier to reach with a finger. As for the battery, the Galaxy S8 + has more capacity for 500 mAh.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a curved display than the Samsung Galaxy S7 cannot boast, however, Samsung’s new smartphones do not have such differences – that Samsung Galaxy S8, which Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus equipped with curved displays. It is for this reason that the word “Edge” was removed from the name (English Edge – face, smooth). Both smartphones are created with support for Super AMOLED technology, the smartphone’s aspect ratio is 18.5: 9, the display has a resolution of 1440×2960 pixels (for comparison, last year’s smartphone resolution was 1440×2560 pixels). Thus, as you may have guessed, the main difference between the flagships is the size: the smartphone Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch display, and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus display with a diagonal of 6.2 inches. It is also worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus display is more refined, but this difference is unlikely to be of any interest to you since the number of pixels in smartphones is the same. While the Galaxy S7 Edge panel was very different from the Samsung Galaxy S7 by a fantastic bend, there is no such difference this year, because both Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus are equipped with curved screens – for this reason, Samsung refused the name Edge. In addition, they both use Super AMOLED technology, they share the 18.5: 9 form with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels, which is an update regarding the resolution of the last year (2560 x 1440).
Flagships Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus have almost the same design with a metal frame, on both sides covered with glass, tiny frames above and below the display. Developers abandoned the physical buttons, and the fingerprint scanner was moved to the back panel of the case. Both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus are waterproof and dustproof. As mentioned earlier, the main differences between flagships are related to size. The dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S8 are 148.9x68x8mm, while the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is 159x74x8mm. As we can see, they are the same in thickness, however, Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is much wider and longer. Such dimensions allow calling the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus a “telecottage” – a smartphone with a very large display, which is inherent in more tablets than phones. Even the classic Samsung Galaxy S8 is considered great, and yet, you could not even imagine that these flagships will differ in displays of such impressive size. Almost abandoning the framework, the developers of the company managed to make a classic smartphone Samsung Galaxy S8 less than Samsung Galaxy Note 7, and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is almost the same size as the iPhone 7 Plus. Of course, because of its size, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus smartphone is heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S8, although you will not feel much difference.
The lateral curvature of the screen is one of the main and all known smartphone chips. The screens for both new products are absolutely identical. The only difference is the size.
n the Galaxy S8 Plus, the diagonal will be 6.2 inches. In the “normal” version – 5.8 inches. The screen resolution is the same – 2960 at 1440. However, due to different diagonals will differ and show PPI (the number of dots per inch):
- Galaxy S8 – 570 ppi.
- Galaxy S8 plus – 529 ppi.
However, it can not be said that the Plus screen is more “granular”. At this resolution, it is simply impossible to consider any differences between the two displays. Both modern glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is installed there and there.
In addition to technical characteristics, it is also worth paying attention to the dimensions of the devices. It is logical that the Plus-version physical size is simply more.
- Galaxy S8 – 148.9 mm (long) by 68.1 mm (width) by 8.0 mm (thickness)
- The Galaxy S8 Plus is 159.5 mm by 73.4 mm by 8.1 mm.
Drawing a general conclusion, we get a funny fact – there are only four main differences:
- Price, but it is not a constant value 🙂
- Diagonal display.
- Battery capacity.
- Physical dimensions.
In all other respects, Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus completely coincide. What choice to make? It’s up to you to decide, but it seems to us that it will be the “smallest model” that will be most successful – yet compact dimensions, with identical technical characteristics, should “do their thing.” Yes, and a more adequate price will be another argument in the direction of the Galaxy S8. Overpay only for extra 04, inch screen? Doubtful pleasure.
The smartphones Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus have an identical single-lens 12MP camera, almost no different from the cameras of last year’s flagships Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Samsung Galaxy S7.
But the front camera has already been improved: both on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and on the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus there is an 8-megapixel front camera, and the S7 line has a 5-megapixel front. Naturally, it’s not just exclusively in megapixels, so you can learn about the quality of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones from more detailed reviews.
Galaxy S8 VS Galaxy S8 Plus: Performance and OS
And again, there is no difference between the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus, although different versions come to different countries.
Both smartphones are equipped with 4 GB of RAM, but the chipset may differ depending on where you live. Samsung has not yet confirmed the name of the chips officially, but we know that these are 8-core chipsets with a clock speed of up to 2.35 Hz.
The difference – if it is – is not great, and you do not have to worry about which chipset will be more powerful.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and standard Samsung Galaxy S8 also work on Android 7.0 Nougat, under the redesigned TouchWiz interface from Samsung, which changed its name to Samsung Experience.
In terms of power and operating system between smartphones, there is no difference, as there is no significant difference between Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus in principle, however, for different regions different versions of smartphones are provided.
Both smartphones have 4 GB of RAM, but the architecture can vary depending on the place of your dwelling. Samsung did not specify the names of the processors that were used in the development, but we know that the processors are eight-core with a clock frequency of 2.35 GHz.
It is likely that in the United States, the smartphone will be equipped with a Snapdragon 835 processor, and in Europe and most other regions – Exynos 8895.
If there is any difference between the above processors, you do not have to worry about this – both processors are high-end and high-tech.
Both the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and the classic Samsung Galaxy S8 have Android Nougat with the user interface of Samsung TouchWiz UI.
Battery and power
In addition to the size of the display, the battery is another important difference between the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones, as the developers used more space in the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus to put in a 3500 mAh battery, although the classic Samsung Galaxy S8 is equipped with a battery with a capacity of only 3000mAh.
This is a very dubious change for both smartphones, given the size of the phones that charge these batteries. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S7, and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus battery is even smaller in volume than the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, whose battery capacity is 3600 mAh.
This is a very depressing circumstance, however, it is possible that such a decision was made to avoid repeating the history of the Samsung Note 7. Besides, considering the more energy-efficient processors, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus batteries can hold longer than comparable batteries in other phones (we’ll tell you about it when we test them). Both smartphones also support high-speed charging via USB port type C.

What is better to buy Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 +?
The Galaxy S8 and S8 + demonstrate the same performance in games and Benchmark applications. If you want a smartphone with a large display, you might be interested in S8 +. Well, the Galaxy S8 is perfect for those who prefer compact smartphones.
In general, Samsung has used the same move as Google: a generation with two different sizes of smartphones, for which the main differences lie in size and battery. Thus, S8 and S8 + do not differ noticeably. Therefore, a choice is a matter of preference for size.
As you can see, the difference between Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is not great. If before Samsung significantly differentiated smartphones with the presence/absence of a curved screen, now both phones are bent.
You also can not think of one as a fable, but of another as a “normal” phone, since even the Galaxy S8 offers a diagonal of 5.8 inches, which is already the size of the territory of the tablets.
However, the 6.2-inch Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is still much larger, and an enlarged battery can offer extra battery life.
Otherwise, the difference between smartphones is not great, the Galaxy S8 can offer a slightly sharper screen and a more manageable size, but the Galaxy S8 Plus is the best choice for fanatics fans. If prices are not take off, smartphones promise to be very attractive
