Review of Fitbit Versa – a clock or a fitness tracker?: We did wait for this watch to test it because it is a product of the company Fitbit, a dog that was eaten on portable electronics. And because Versa is one of the few watches that do not look like a brutal sports accessory, although the sports component in them is almost the main one. Fitbit Versa on the one hand slightly disappointed, on the other – were a very interesting motivational product that can help you achieve certain goals.
Fitbit Versa looks like a cross between Apple Watch and Pebble Time. The clock represents a nearly flat square, which makes it look a bit unusual, and the angular shape still betrays their sporting start. If you consider them as a classic accessory that fits both under the suit and under the daily outfit, then Apple Watch is clearly winning. And here on materials of furnish here parity. Tempered glass on the display, aluminium body and polyurethane strap. By the time the clock is collected, there are no questions – everything is very high-quality and thought out. The straps are replaceable, and the watch case is in three colours: silver, black or pink. Also, there are two versions of the clock, the difference between them in the presence of NFC. The model without NFC costs $ 200, and with the module, it costs $ 30 more. The hull is of course dust and waterproof. In the hours you can swim,
Sit Fitbit Versa on hand conveniently, the watch is almost not felt, and the strap is comfortable even in summer. By the way, in the set, there is a spare lengthened strap, or rather one part, which allows you to adjust the watch under any hand. The change of the strap, despite the convenient mechanism, is a real quest. We must stock up with patients or with a special tool. In addition to the extension strap, only the charger is included. It is unusual but comfortable. This is a plastic cup with a clamp inside which the watch is placed. Full charging takes two hours. But it is surprising that almost every Fitbit watch has its own unique charger. There is no continuity and interchangeability here.
The screen in the Fitbit Versa is quite large – 1.34 inches, resolution 300 by 300 pixels. It is colourful and very bright, even on a sunny day, you can see the time and other information on the display. The LCD screen, it’s touch-sensitive, control is due to gestures. There are also three buttons – one on the left side and two on the right. The button on the left is responsible for the exit back, in addition, it can be clamped and get access to the quick settings. The buttons on the right are responsible for calling up the training menu and setting the alarm.
Fitbit own operating system, the donor for which served as a Pebble watch. Yes, Fitbit bought Pebble just in order to get at your disposal an operating system, an application store and a few more developments. Pebble users here will be much familiar. Although the logic of the work was slightly altered. To the right of the dial is the application and settings menu. By default, there are already several pre-installed applications, including for training and music. Swipe down from the dial, you get access to the last comments, with the upward swipe – to the data on the number of steps passed, pulse, exercises and other statistics.
The clock or dial is interchangeable and there are a lot of them in the application store. Implemented is the same as in Pebble Watch. There also a bunch of other applications, including sports. In general, the sports part here is very well thought out, however for Fitbit it is not a novelty.
Notifications from your smartphone
But with what the real trouble is – it’s with notifications. Firstly, when you first set up the clock, you need to give permission to send notifications, this is done in the application on your smartphone. Secondly, in the same place in the application, you must select programs that can notify you. Well, in the third place, the notifications themselves do not appear on the whole screen, but only half, and then you either deploy it and look or ignore it. But worst of all, the notification does not wake the screen, but to see it you need to do a swing of the hand. In general, we are accustomed to such logic for a long time and there are no complaints, but if the amplitude of the wave is small, for example, when you are driving, the clock screen probably will not light up and you will not see the notification. It is rather inconvenient that the incoming message does not wake the screen and aggravates the situation, that the notification takes only half of the screen. In addition, Cyrillic fonts are far from the best here and it is very difficult to read them. From this, we smoothly flow into the second minus of hours – a complete lack of Russian. Both the clock itself and the application on the smartphone are exclusively in English. Minus in general is not the biggest and complexities with the understanding you should not, if you know a little bit of the language, but the fact is that there is no Russian language and you should know it.
However, real pain causes the management of music on the smartphone. Formally, it is there, but setting up the clock to control the music causes horror and suffering. To manage music, you need to configure the second connection to the smartphone. Without this, nothing at all. To do this, you must first select the quick menu from the smartphone, then in the clock settings set the connection to the smartphone, and already on the device to find and connect the source Versa Classic. Only after that you will get access to the music management on the clock. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. And the stability of the connection is not the best. There is another option to listen to music – throw it on the clock itself, which have 2.5 GB of memory, and connect the Bluetooth headphones directly to the clock. Great, just throw music can only be from your computer with a special application. And the transfer of tracks to the clock as slowly as possible. You can still connect Spotify or Deezer and download the playlist from there, but Fitbit Versa is definitely not the best choice if you like listening to music and podcasts and managing them from the clock.
But what can be called a strong point, so this is a sports component. Fitbit came up with small motivators that allow you to program the target for every hour – for example, to do 100 steps per hour. After activating these motivators, you will be notified that you have to go through a certain number of steps to fulfill the norm. There is also a regular application for breathing. It helps to calm down and relax. Something similar is in the Apple Watch.
In the application, there are serious exercises. For example, in the application on the smartphone, there is a section called “Challenges”, that is, calls or tests. Here you are offered various tests, both real in some cities, and personal ones, which can be performed anywhere on Earth competing with friends. Friends can be connected from Facebook or found in the Fitbit community.
Also in the application, there is a section Fitbit Coach – this is already a real workout with different kinds of loads. But for his work will need an additional application, which is called, Fitbit Coach, that is, the coach. The application is paid, works by subscription and if you do not like to go to the hall, then for $ 8 per month you can get access to classes together with the coach from Fitbit. Of the basic, free options, you have seven types of classes: running, biking, swimming, running track, working with weight in the hall, interval training and workout. During training, the clock display shows the main indicators: pulse, time and burned calories. In the case of running, the distance is shown, and when driving a bicycle, speed is also displayed. Own GPS sensor in the clock there, so you use GPS on your smartphone.
As part of sports, there is complete order and if you wanted to get into shape, then such a watch is an excellent companion. You can monitor the quality of sleep, for your pulse, and you can set the maximum and minimum threshold of the pulse so that the clock knows when the heart rate goes off scale. A very useful thing and for those who monitor their health. Pulse can be monitored when you are awake and even asleep, and then receive detailed statistics. Perhaps the heart rate sensor itself and not the most highly accurate, it’s still not a professional tool, but you will receive a definite picture. In addition, statistics can be useful even when you go to the doctor. It is interesting that almost all this functionality is available for the company’s bracelets, but most of them are not much cheaper. So if you only need classes, look at the braceletMoov Now.
There are a lot of different statistics and settings in the application, but the application itself at first glance is very congested. Connecting the clock, too, makes you a little nervous, and for the first time, it takes a very long time. This application is very useful and allows you to get a lot of important data. Analysis of sleep, weight, how much you drink water, how many calories burn and how often you exercise. The application is exclusively in English, but you should not have any difficulties with the translation.
It’s surprising that some settings can not be found in the application or in the clock itself. For example, change the measurement system or display time in 12 or 24-hour format. This is done only in the settings of your account, on the company’s website. To find this had to spend time. But on the whole, it feels like the application is strongly sharpened on sports and health and in this respect it’s really all right. There is even a community, after entering into which you can find friends and compete in the performance of various tasks. From the application on the smartphone, you can change the dials and install applications for the clock. True installation of the image or application takes time, on the fly it does not. As for applications for watches, there are not really many interesting ones, and most of them are designed for American or European markets.
By the way, there is not a speaker or a microphone in the clock. Answer the call will not work. But if you use an Android smartphone, you can answer calls or messages using pre-prepared answers. The battery life depends on how you use them. If you are actively involved in sports, then it’s a couple of days. If you use them to receive notifications and manage music, then it’s 3-4 days. Before autonomy Amazfit course far away, but it’s better than a day’s work.
As a result, Fitbit Versa looks more like a fitness tracker with a display than a full-fledged smartwatch. The complexity of some settings is annoying, the usefulness of poorly implemented notifications is discouraging, and the management of music literally kills. But if you are primarily looking for a companion gadget for sports, then they are not bad. Although there is no built-in GPS, but overall the product is interesting and deserves your attention.
