Speaking the name of the company Asus, first of all, remember gaming laptops or motherboards. But Taiwanese have been manufacturing smartphones for quite some time. And it was always interesting how much Asus devices are good. And here’s a bright representative of Asus for a little money – Zenfone Max Plus (M1). Serednyachok with an emphasis on photo opportunities.
Outwardly, this is a typical budget, which strongly resembles Apple products two years ago. It’s either like it or not. If you ignore the styles and tastes, the smartphone is well-assembled. Glass, metal and plastic inserts on the back side are used here. In the hand Zenfone Max Plus (M1) is felt solid and strong. No frills, but no “Chinese”. All is soundly and qualitatively. The front part looks like all current smartphones – a black glass surface behind which the display hides. From the controls there is only a power button and a volume key, and both are on the right end. On the left side there is a huge tray for two SIM cards and a memory card. This is not a hybrid slot, everything is put here at once. On top is the headphone jack, bottom speaker and micro-USB for charging. It can not be said,
Display and sound
In the line Asus Zenfone Max Plus (M1) was the first smartphone with an extended 18: 9 screen. This is a 5.7-inch IPS display with Full HD + resolution. The screen is well calibrated. It is quite bright, with good viewing angles, an oleophobic coating and the main thing is that at this resolution the picture is quite clear, there is no looseness here. In the display settings of a wide variety you will not find. There is a blue filter, a zoom setting, auto brightness and perhaps everything. The display is not bad: watching movies and playing games on it is quite comfortable. Another thing is that watching movies and videos on YouTube is better with headphones. The speaker here is not the loudest, besides it reproduces mainly the upper middle frequencies. This allows you not to miss a call, but it’s better to watch video in headphones. There’s a 3.5 mm jack for this, and presets, and even an equalizer.
Zenfone Max Plus can say a standard set of characteristics for this price category. The processor MediaTek MT6750T, 3 GB of RAM and a drive for 32 GB. It is difficult to call the system super fast, because the smartphone is a little thoughtful. This is evident in the animation of the transitions, and in the opening of applications. Nothing criminal, but you see it. This case can be slightly corrected by turning off animations, and then the system starts to work faster. Of course, Zenfone Max Plus with such a set of characteristics is far from a gaming smartphone, although it would be interesting to look at an inexpensive device with an eye on gamers from Asus. Nevertheless, even heavy games are launched here and it is quite comfortable playing them. Maybe somewhere you have to take the graphics, but that’s fine. By the way, Zenfone Max Plus has a version of both 2 GB and 4 GB of RAM.
Asus bets on the photo capabilities of their smartphones. Even their slogan “We Love Photo” on the box quite obviously hints at the fact that Zenfone Max Plus should be well shot. To judge you really, but it seems to remove the main 16-megapixel camera with a f / 2.0 diaphragm is really good. Achieve decent results, especially with good light can be no problem. In low light, the pictures are noticeably worse. Noticeably pronounced work shumodava, because of what the picture gets a little blurry. There are manual settings here, they are especially useful if you want to make a macro. There is also a portrait mode with a blurring of the background and it really blurs it, but it does not spare the person either, blurring the contours of the face, head or body.
The video is recorded in Full HD, the quality is very decent, you can shoot video and you need it. But the Zenfone Max Plus main camera has two lenses, and the second is not for a two-card increase. This is a wide-angle lens with a 120-degree angle, which allows you to make very unusual photos. For example, to shoot indoors or to place the whole building in a snapshot – something that you can not do on the main camera. The second wide-angle camera does not have autofocus, but anything that will be from the camera at a distance of 20 centimeters will be in sharpness. Frontalka here 8 Mp, the quality is average. She also has a portrait mode and various improvements, but it’s best to turn it all off to get a normal self-portrait.
Asus uses its own ZenUI launcher. This shell is fairly simple, with no unnecessary applications and add-ins. There are additional chips, but in general the system is not overloaded. Again, change the appearance, changing the launcher and icons, no one prohibits. Android themes and it’s good that in just 5 minutes you can create a completely different perception of the smartphone. The only thing that the first thing after buying a smartphone should be downloaded from the application store – the Google keyboard or some other, because the native keyboard just does not allow you to print normally. And in our copy there was a possibility to activate 100 GB free of charge on Google disk for a period of one year, and that’s a really nice bonus. Works Zenfone Max Plus on Android 7.0. Asus promise to update it to Oreo, though when it happens it’s unclear.
Unlocking the screen
In Zenfone Max Plus there is a fashionable unlock on the face, but it was introduced more for a tick, because it does not always work, and when it works, it does it very slowly. There is a fingerprint scanner that works much better. Let him and not the most agile, but reliable and works almost always accurately. The fingerprint reader can be used to answer calls. That is, no one except the owner will be able to answer the call in the standard way, and to accept it, you must attach a registered finger to the scanner. An interesting solution for those who are concerned about the safety of calls.
This smartphone has a very capacious battery at 4130 mAh. However, this is typical of all Asus with the prefix Max. It is assumed that Zenfone Max Plus will not only live for a long time from a single charge, but also be able to share it with other devices, that is, work as an external battery. This is a proprietary chip Asus. There is even a special Power Master application for this case. It focuses all the settings related to the battery, power saving, charging external devices and so on. In this case, the smartphone does not show any miracles of autonomy. A full day of work at maximum load with all connections for it is normal. With such a capacious battery, the charging time is about 3 hours and this is in a fast mode. So it will not work out in a fast way.
Asus were able to make a balanced smartphone with its minuses and pluses. He is far from being the fastest, while he has a good autonomy, a decent camera, not an overloaded interface and a good display. Today, officially Zenfone Max Plus (M1) can be bought for $ 260, but you can find it for $ 220. A smartphone can be called a strong middle peasant with its chips, and it is quite possible to advise people who are not ready to spend a lot of money on such devices.
