For a year with little smartphones, the re-born brand Nokia managed to cover almost all price categories, from the ultra-budgetary number one to the flagship Nokia 8 Sirocco. The “Six” in 2017 in the model line occupied the middle positions, only slightly surpassing the “five”. But the release of the updated version shifted the accents: it is still a smartphone of the middle segment, but a class higher – with a more efficient processor, advanced optics, which previously flaunted only flagships, and a number of improvements are more modest.
Packing and equipment
The Nokia 6 2018 smartphone comes in a light cardboard box with a traditional image of the smartphone and linked hands. In the retractable box on the right is the apparatus itself, under it is a “clip” for accessing the cards. On the left is a separate box with a charger, cable and a stereo headset. The main thing in any set – documentation, and warranty – lie under the bath with a smartphone.
Nokia 6 of the previous generation had a fairly strict design, which in the new model got its development. Against the background of the brothers, the smartphone successfully distinguishes the contrasting edging of the color “copper metallic” around the perimeter of the case, the camera module and the fingerprint pad. And with different colors of the device – black, blue and white – it looks completely different. The front panel is black in all three variants.
The display has full-size frames, but in comparison with its predecessor, the smartphone has decreased by 6.2 mm, that is, the upper and lower areas have become slightly smaller. Above the display is a cutout for the speaker, the front camera window and a standard set of sensors that are not visible to the eye. In the right-hand corner, there is a vendor’s logo, but it does not flash – it’s almost invisible and not annoying.
The back panel is strictly symmetrical, all elements are located in the center. From top to bottom: a hole in the auxiliary microphone; the camera block into which the lens fit, the Zeiss inscription and a double flash; round slightly recessed fingerprint; engraved logo of the vendor; the inscription “android one” and the output data of the device – by whom and by where, the model number.
All the edges of the Nokia 6 are flat, which gives it extra rigor. On the left, there is nothing except the combo slot for SIM-card and SIM-card / microSD. On the right are a volume rocker and a small power button.
The top end has a mini-jack headphone jack. Down in the center is the USB Type-C, to the left of it the grill of the media speaker, to the right – the hole of the main microphone.
For this model, the manufacturer decided to abandon the new trend of elongated displays with a ratio of 18: 9, and in the hand of Nokia 6 can be felt broad – it is appropriate to light nostalgia. The edges of the smartphone are not rounded, which slightly “scratches” the hand, not delivering, however, any discomfort. The device is made perfectly – the monolithic metal case does not bend anywhere, does not creak, there are no backlashes. The metal case slides in cold hands, but the hard ribs provide a reliable grip, which virtually eliminates the occasional “crash”.
The physical keys do not protrude very much from the case, they sit firmly in the grooves and work out with a very precise click.
The main complaint to the device is the very unfortunate location of the fingerprint: almost at the center of the back cover. To get on it, you have to always bend your finger or intercept the smartphone unnaturally low – otherwise, even a short finger is guaranteed to fall on the flash.
The display in Nokia 6 of the sample of 2018 is the same as the first “six” – with an IPS matrix of 5.5 “, a resolution of 1920×1080 and 403 ppi.
The viewing angles are maximal without delamination, and the colors are not distorted and do not fade, from which side you look at the image.
The picture quality is high, color rendition is natural, black color is characterized by a relatively small “glow”. The display is covered with a protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3, slightly rounded around the perimeter. During testing, noticeable attrition appeared on the edges of the glass, but most likely it is a test sample – with other brand models such a problem did not arise.
In the screen settings, you can turn on the night mode, which will, with the user-specified intensity, filter the blue light constantly, according to a specified schedule, or from sunset to dawn. There is also a function of displaying time and notifications on the black screen when the user takes the smartphone in his hands.
The OS has a minimalistic and very convenient camera application, which slightly changes when the system is upgraded to 8.1. The interface allows you to shoot photos and videos on two cameras simultaneously in one of two modes – with a split image in half or “picture in picture”.
The characteristics of the camera Nokia 6 2018 does not differ from its predecessor: one lens, a matrix of 16 megapixels, aperture f / 2.0. But all this is secondary, whereas the main thing for a smartphone of an average price category (and a fundamental difference from the Nokia 6 model of 2017) is the Carl Zeiss optics.
Daytime shots immediately show a rich and natural color rendition.
In the room, the picture quality is still at an altitude, but the background in difficult lighting can “float” a little.
At night, the camera copes well with the backlight and very well works out moving objects – they are lubricated only with fast movement. However, on the Red Square, the camera for some reason began to turn the frame too yellow.
Technical characteristics of Nokia 6 have grown significantly – instead of Snapdragon 430, there is a much more powerful and expensive chip Snapdragon 630. In addition to it goes video chip Adreno 508, which gives good opportunities in games. The memory size was left unchanged – 32 GB internal and 3 GB operative (also available in 4 + 64 GB version). Already after power-on, a little less than 20 GB is available. It seems and not a little, but in fact, memory is quickly clogged with photos and applications, so the possibility to place microSD up to 128 GB will be very useful. By the way, the phone has a fast memory of the eMMC 5.1 standard, thanks to which installation of applications occurs in a few moments.
Nokia 6 2018 review mobile review shows that this is a non-flagman model but uses on its board Bluetooth 5 generation and even an NFC chip that works perfectly. For Internet surfing, you can use LTE-connection or Wi-Fi of all bands and frequencies. With the quality of communication, everything is fine – you will hear well the interlocutor, like him you. For navigation, the smartphone uses GPS and GLONASS resources, and the cold start lasts no longer than 10 seconds. The location is determined by a minimum error.

Autonomy of Nokia 6 2018
In Nokia 6 2018 64 GB, the battery was placed at 3000 mAh – for the 5.5-inch screen the best option. For an hour of playing in Tanks takes only 15% of the charge, and FullHD video at 50% brightness put a fully charged battery in 11 hours and 27 minutes. To achieve such good results was possible thanks to the use of a new energy-efficient processor and a screen with not too high resolution.
In addition, the chip supports quick charging technology Quick Charge 3 or 4 generations, I could not find exact information about this in the network. When using a complete charger, in the first 30 minutes the smartphone gets 47% of the charge, and for an hour – 79%. Then the process goes not so fast and 100% of the charge runs in almost 2 hours.
- A decent camera with Zeiss optics;
- Bluetooth and NFC chip;
- Net version of Android 8.0;
- Good performance and autonomy;
- Design and build quality.
- Not the most convenient location of the fingerprint scanner to reach out to which you have to intercept the Nokia 6 ds black smartphone;
- Mediocre sound;
- The ratio of the screen is 16: 9.
Nokia 6 2018 is a smartphone that has become a worthy continuation of the manufacturer’s ideas, offering excellent opportunities for its price. Of course, for this price will have to accept and with some disadvantages, among which, above all, the average sound, both through an external speaker and in complete headphones, as well as the old screen ratio of 16: 9. But the advantages outweigh the disadvantages because, in comparison with its predecessor, it received an NFC chip, a more powerful processor, better optics, a 5th generation Bluetooth and a clean version of the Android OS. Also, reduced the frame around the perimeter of the screen and, in general, improved the screen for the better.
