Sources of the authoritative edition of The Verge told about Instagram plans to launch an online store called IG Shopping. The application will allow users to view the products of sellers, on which they are subscribed and buy goods directly through the mobile application.
At the moment it is not known at what stage of development is IG Shopping and when the application is released. However, sources say that Facebook is building big plans around the new online store.
Note that, according to Facebook’s operating director, Cheryl Sandberg, more than 25 million commercial companies have accounts on Instagram and 2 million of them are advertisers. Thus, the creation of a standalone application will allow companies to provide a separate place for the development of their business, as well as expand their capabilities.
Over time, Facebook will be able to provide even more useful tools for sellers who built their business through Instagram. Facebook is challenging other e-commerce platforms, such as Shopify. According to the source, many online companies need an Instagram account and will use useful tools to promote their business if Facebook provides them.
Some companies already sell similar tools to advertisers working through social networks. For example, Four Sixty offers its services for creating photo galleries for stores, content moderation and the planning of new publications.
