The smartphone from LG is multifunction, waterproof, with an attractive design and a dual camera on the back. The new OnePlus is not as bright as the G6, although with premium hardware and a dual camera. Which one is better? Let’s find out in this comparison OnePlus 5 vs LG G6.
Design of the smartphone LG G6 and OnePlus 5
LG G6 looks more attractive than OnePlus 5 thanks to a combination of glass and metal in the design, as well as a screen that takes up almost the entire front panel. The G6 is more comfortable in the hand, despite the large diagonal of the display.
Compared to the flagship LG, OnePlus 5 has a modest and banal design, it is less challenging, and does not attract much attention. But, on the surface of the smartphone, there are no fingerprints, unlike the glass back panel G6.
On the side of OnePlus 5 there is a switch slider, which allows you to partially or completely turn off all the sound notification in one click, which is especially useful before going to bed or during important meetings. On the G6 for this, you have to unlock the smartphone and understand the settings.
Protection class IP68 ensures that the LG G6 survives the rain and can be used for shooting near the pool. Phone OnePlus 5 does not have water resistance.
Both smartphones have fast and accurate fingerprint scanners: the G6 has it on the back, the OnePlus 5 has a front-facing fingerprint reader. The location is for the front most common, but in the rear location there are pluses.
Table with the sizes of phones

|LG G6||148.9 × 71.9 × 7.9 mm||163 g.|
Comparison of screens
The LG G6 is more compact and more convenient than the OnePlus 5 due to the unusual aspect ratio of the screen – 18: 9 instead of the standard 16: 9. With the extended G6 display it’s easier to work with one finger – it’s more convenient when entering text or browsing the web, The video does not unfold on the whole screen.
The resolution of the G6 display is 2880 × 1440 pixels, OnePlus 5 is 1920 × 1080 pixels. The first image is more detailed, although for the unaided eye the difference is almost imperceptible. But, the colors on the AMOLED panel from OnePlus are more saturated. On the IPS LCD, the G6 color is worse, and the white seems bluish.
Many users are unhappy with the “jelly effect” on OnePlus 5 – during scrolling part of the image is stretched, and then comes back to normal. The drawback is related to the aspect ratio and cannot be fixed in the following software updates. G6 has no such problem.
On the screens of both smartphones, the picture remains clear even under direct sunlight. The phones also have a blue set to reduce eye strain at night.
LG G6 received several unique modes – for example, Always On Display, which allows you to view notifications on the locked screen. This is faster energy consumption, but it saves the user time. Another phone supports HDR video content in Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, but this is not so important for the CIS countries.
Software and interface
OnePlus runs on Android 7.1.1, G6 on an outdated Android 7.0. The latter is still awaiting an update that will add face detection to the security system and improved battery power management.
Appearance and functionality of the software is very different. The interface of the LG G6 is brighter, colorful and generally looks attractive. Much attention is paid to small things: the icons on the screen are the same shape, the fonts are clear and legible, and the wallpaper is carefully worked out.
In the interface OnePlus 5 dominated by gray, white and black colors, there is little variety. The names do not fit on the icons, sometimes they are difficult to read against the background of the wallpaper.
By default, there is no application tray on the G6, but you can return it in the settings. The smartphone mimics the style of iOS, with the placement of all installed programs on the main screen. To open the tray of applications on OnePlus 5, you just need to hold your finger up, as in the “stock” version of Android.
In the G6 smartphone, navigation is carried out using programmable softkeys. In addition to on-screen displays, OnePlus has capacitive buttons below the display, the fingerprint scanner is built into the Home button, and shortcuts can be tied to a double or long keystroke – experienced users will appreciate this variety.
Processor, memory and performance
On the LG G6 stands last year’s Snapdragon 821 processor and 4 GB of RAM, on OnePlus 5 – the modern Snapdragon 835 and 8 GB of RAM. None of them seem too slow for any type of load, including games and social networks. But OnePlus works faster when switching between applications.
Demanding games with rich graphics demonstrate a higher frame rate on OnePlus 5, including thanks to a powerful GPU and a display with a lower resolution.
The internal memory of LG is 32 GB. MicroSD memory cards are supported, however, they have less read / write speed. The OP5 has 64 or 128 GB available to choose from, which cannot be expanded.

Compare dual cameras
The dual rear camera is available for both smartphones, but they are functionally very different. The G6 has two 13-megapixel cameras – an additional one with a wide-angle lens is used to cover most of the scene.
The OnePlus 5 has a 16-megapixel main and 20-megapixel second camera, as well as 1.6x optical zoom and Portrait Mode, as on the iPhone 7 Plus. The camera of the new OnePlus fits better for shooting food, and the G6 – city attractions.
The quality of the cameras is about the same level – not ideal, but corresponding to the price range. But, the flagship from LG sometimes produces too sharp images, but thanks to optical stabilization, the images are not blurred. New OnePlus more often uses HDR-photos are obtained better than the G6 with the same mode. In color reproduction, OP5 gives priority to warm tones, G6 – cold or neutral.
In low light, the smartphone from LG demonstrates clearer and more detailed images – OIS allows you to capture light without blurring motion. Made on OnePlus 5-night photos are also not bad if they do not increase to huge sizes. With a lack of light, you can not turn on the zoom on the OP5. Pictures on G6 will become noisy, but all functions will remain at the user’s disposal.
The front-facing cameras of the two compared smartphones make medium-sized selfies, despite the use of screens to replace the flash. The significant difference in resolution – 16 MP in OP5 versus 5 MP in G6 – does not affect the sharpness in the photo.
The LG G6 has a very wide viewing angle, so more people can be accommodated on the Selfie, but the pictures are distorted. In the application, you can switch between normal and wide-angle self, however, only the wide-angle mode is available during video chat.
The video on the G6 is sharper, at a resolution of 1080p on both phones is stabilized. But, in OnePlus 5, focusing is faster, zoom capabilities do not affect the quality of the survey.
G6 uses OIS to keep the frame stable – a video is more pleasant to watch than on OP5. If the light is not enough, on the phone from LG the videos get brighter and more detailed.
Multimedia and sound
OnePlus 5 is great for watching videos on YouTube due to the common aspect ratio – most of the video fills the entire screen. The content on the LG G6 is often played with black stripes from the top and bottom, but in services such as Netflix or Amazon Prime, you can watch videos in HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
At the bottom, both smartphones have one downward dynamic. They are loud but do not impress with the sound quality, the middle of the range on the OnePlus 5 sound a little louder.
Along with the G6 in the kit are good wired headphones, in the box with OP5 you will not find any. Both have a 3.5 mm jack for connecting their headset.

During the conversation, you can hear well the owners of LG G6 and OnePlus 5, and their interlocutors. The connection to GPS works best on the G6, especially in the room and the OP5 also has a weaker reception of the Wi-Fi signal.
Comparison of batteries in OnePlus 5 and LG G6
Both smartphones have a non-removable battery with a capacity of 3300 mAh, however, with a daily load, OnePlus 5 will last about 2 days, and G6 – no more than 1.5 days. The difference is due to the energy-efficient processor OP5, AMOLED-display and the prevalence of dark colors in the interface.
OnePlus takes pride in its own technology of fast charging Dash Charge. The speed is impressive, but it only works with a branded charger adapter and cable. LG G6 supports Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0, which is compatible with third-party chargers.

The LG G6 lies well in the hand, is protected from dust and dirt, and also does not have errors in OnePlus 5 – jelly screen, connection problems. But, the OP5 has higher performance, more durable battery and more internal memory.
