If you are looking for an inexpensive smartphone, you are lucky, as we have collected the best budget smartphones of 2018 in one favorable rating, which you will find below.
In the past, the term “cheapest smartphone,” as a rule, was of a warning nature, instead of a tempting offer, characterizing the crappy build quality, sluggish performance, ridiculous screen resolution and large cameras. But this is the history of the past, not the present; the modern market is full of budget smartphones, the competition for which has fundamentally raised the bar of quality.
And while Samsung Galaxy S8, iPhone 8, LG G6 or HTC U11 conquer the minds of users all over the world, there are many intriguing (and cheap) devices that make up the world of budget phones.
Here are some of our favorite budget smartphones. No reason to worry about the price? Get acquainted with our rating of the best smartphones of 2018.
1. MOTOROLA MOTO E4 PLUS
- Huge battery;
- The fingerprint scanner
- Limited productivity;
- Camera problems;
The first place in the ranking of budget smartphones is now occupied by Moto E4 Plus, which combined phenomenal battery life, a fingerprint reader, and premium design, and it remains much cheaper than the Moto G5 below.
The smartphone is somewhat limited in the performance section, but it compensates for this by the fact that it can stay for two days on one charge. If the price and battery are your priorities for a budget smartphone, Moto E4 Plus will suit you perfectly.
2. WILEYFOX SWIFT 2 PLUS
Weight : 158 g | Dimensions : 143.7 x 71.9 x 8.6 mm | OS : Android 6 | Screen Size : 5-inch | Resolution : 1280 x 720 | Processor : Snapdragon 430 | Memory : 3 GB | Built-in memory : 32 GB | Battery : 2700 mAh | Main camera : 16 megapixel | Front camera : 8 megapixels.
- Excellent design at a low price;
- Uninterrupted work;
- Screen “only” 720p;
- No HDR camera mode;
The smartphone looks and feels in the hands, like an expensive phone, with an attractive aluminum design, the design of which breaths smoothly, from which side do not look.
The Swift 2 Plus camera is capable of taking decent photos, the fingerprint scanner works perfectly, and the Cyanogen user interface is well thought out and develops the functions of vanilla Android.
Although Wileyfox Swift 2 Plus is one of our favorite budget phones, the company that produces it is restructuring and seems to be stopping operations in some countries. What exactly does this mean for Wileyfox smartphone owners is currently unclear, but you should take this into account if you are planning to buy Swift 2 Plus.
3. NOKIA 6
Weight : 169 g | Dimensions : 154 x 75.8 x 7.9 mm | OS : Android 7.1.1 | Screen Size : 5.5-inch | Resolution : 1920 x 1080 | Processor : Snapdragon 430 | Memory : 3/4 GB | Built-in memory : 32/64 GB | Battery : 3000 mAh | Main camera : 16 megapixel | Front camera : 8 megapixels.
- Premium design at an affordable price;
- The fingerprint scanner;
- Disenchantingly slow charging;
- Not the most convenient phone in the hands
Nokia has returned, you probably already know, but Nokia 6 is in the top of budget smartphones. Nokia 6 boasts an excellent premium-class design, a fingerprint scanner with a convenient location and an excellent camera.
If you want to buy one of Nokia’s new smartphones, you’ll want to take a look at Nokia 6, because it offers some of the highest specifications and works better than other phones in the series. We especially like the price of Nokia 6, given what a budget smartphone offers for its money.
4. MOTOROLA MOTO G4 PLUS
Weight : 155 g | Dimensions : 153 x 76.6 x 7.9-9.8 mm | OS : Android 6.0.1 | Screen Size : 5.5-inch | Resolution : 1920 x 1080 | Processor : 8-core, 1.5 GHz | Memory : 2/4 GB | Built-in Memory : 16GB (+ MicroSD) | Battery : 3000 mAh | Main camera : 16 megapixel | Front camera : 5 megapixel.
- Excellent camera;
- Bright, clear display;
- Plastic construction;
- No NFC
The first of three Motorola smartphones of this list, Moto G4 Plus. This is the most powerful budget smartphone from the company since 2016, which offers some of the best features for its price even in 2018.
With similar Moto G4 features, it also comes with a fingerprint scanner and an improved camera – which is what “Plus” means, because it shares the dimensions of a regular Moto G4.
The primary camera for 16 megapixels is, perhaps, the most impressive part of the smartphone. If you want to shoot good photos, but can not afford a high-end smartphone, this is the best choice for you.
And as long as there is no NFC here, and you can not use Android Pay on Moto G4 Plus, its bright display, and high performance surely justify it. Before you buy, note that it makes sense to look at the new Mogo G5 Plus, which is already available on store shelves.
5. WILEYFOX SWIFT 2
Weight : 155 g | Dimensions : 143.7 x 71.9 x 8.6 mm | OS : Android 7 | Screen Size : 5-inch | Resolution : 1280 x 720 | Processor : 4-core, 1.4 GHz | Memory : 2 GB | Built-in Memory : 16 GB | Battery : 2700 mAh | Main camera : 13 megapixel | Front camera : 8 megapixels.
- Excellent design;
- Android 7 out of the box;
- Weak camera in poor lighting;
- Screen 720p
Another phone Wileyfox made its way into our rating of the best state employees, and it costs less than Swift 2 Plus, mentioned above.
We like Swift 2 for the combination of low price and excellent performance. It offers a 5-inch screen, a 13-megapixel camera, and an Android 7 Nougat out of the box.
The highlight of this smartphone is design – it looks premium, surprisingly far from its price. If you are looking for a sea of opportunities for small money, and you like the design of Swift 2, we recommend it as the next available smartphone.
6. MOTOROLA MOTO G5
- Metal smartphone at a low price;
- Clear, bright Full HD display;
- Not the most advanced chipset;
- No NFC;
Motorola Moto G5, once the best budget smartphone of the year (1 st place), slipped and flew several positions with the release of more profitable alternatives and the release of G5S. Moto G5 comes in a metallic design, offers a Full HD display and a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device.
You do not get the fastest processor, even in comparison with the phones of this rating, there is not in G5 and NFC, but in all other aspects, the new budget phone Motorola does fine if you decide to buy one of them shortly.
7. MOTOROLA MOTO E4
Dimensions : 144.7 x 72.3 x 9.3 mm | OS : Android 7.1.1 | Screen Size : 5-inch | Resolution : 1280 x 720 | Processor : MediaTek MT6737 | Memory : 2 GB | Built-in Memory : 16 GB | Battery : 2800 mAh | Main camera : 8 megapixel | Front camera : 5 megapixel.
- Flat design;
- The fingerprint scanner;
- Poor performance;
- Not all markets are all-metal
Motorola Moto E4 is not the most budget-friendly smartphone in the world … it’s not even the best budget smartphone from Motorola, but if you are looking for a really cheap phone, Moto E4 is still worth your attention.
We especially liked the sleek design, the Android 7 software, the fingerprint scanner and the price of the phone. There are also problems, including 16 GB of internal memory, performance is also not fantastic, but if you can deal with these things, Moto E4 may be inexpensive, but a good smartphone.
8. HONOR 6A
- A decent camera;
- Durable battery lifetime
- The display of 720p is like a step back
- No fingerprint scanner
The Honor 6A seems to be a slight decrease compared to the Honor 5C, which ranked 10th in the ranking of budget smartphones before it, but the 6A offers better battery life and an improved camera.
The smartphone is also equipped with Android 7 Nougat software and Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, which promises you stable work experience.
Unfortunately, the Honor 6A lost its fingerprint scanner, which was on the Honor 5C, and its screen moved to HD, instead of 1080p, but it’s still a good budget phone if a limited budget guides you.
9. SONY XPERIA L1
- Large screen;
- Attractive design;
- Weak equipment
- Bad camera
At present, the only smartphone of Sony, which takes a position in our ranking of budget smartphones, is the Xperia L1 – it is an inexpensive phone that works well, but does not offer anything outstanding. Other smartphones in this rating are much more impressive since they do not have a fingerprint scanner or a good camera.
Nevertheless, an important role is played by a low price and if you really like the design of Sony smartphones, the Xperia L1 can be the best budget smartphone for you this year. We especially want the 5.5-inch screen – despite its 720p resolution – and expandable memory, which allows you to use MicroSD up to 256 GB.
10. HUAWEI NOVA
Weight : 146 g | Dimensions : 141.2 x 69.1 x 7.1 mm | OS : Android 7 | Screen Size : 5-inch | Resolution : 1920 x 1080 | Processor : Snapdragon 625 | Memory : 3 GB | Built-in memory : 32 GB | Battery : 3020 mAh | Main camera : 12 megapixel | Front camera : 8 megapixels.
- High-quality aluminum case;
- A decent battery life;
- Camera performance in poor light;
- The user interface needs to be developed
Smartphones Huawei Nova significantly dropped in price, in contrast to the announced price tag in September 2016, so that it now fits into the best budget tablets in 2017, offering a tight list of features for a low price.
Huawei NOVA boasts a very high-quality finish, which makes it look like a flagship smartphone with a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel and a 5-inch Full HD display on the front panel.
If you are looking for a budget phone with a large margin of battery life, Huawei Nova will suit you even in this case.
